Grass weeds are not usually a problem in irrigated wheat and barley. A single application of 2,4-D amine, MCPA or Buctril M (MCPA = bromoxynil) at the end of tillering should be sufficient to give adequate weed control. MCPA and Buctril M are recommended for barley. Where grassy weeds have become important due to the selective control of broadleaf weeds, grassy herbicides such as hoe grass (Illoxan) or Hoelon applied between seedling and end of tillering depending on stage of the weeds gives good weed control. A broad spectrum herbicide such as Stomp (pendimenthalin) applied pre-emergent has been found satisfactory especially under rainfed conditions. Both broadleaf and grassy weeds are problematic under rainfed conditions. The above pre |
