|Adapted wheat varieties have been developed mainly through selection from a wide range of introduced lines bred at various centres outside the country. No work has been undertaken in the development of barley varieties locally. The few varieties growing are brought in by interested parties, especially farmers. Being highly a self pollinated crop the maintenance of wheat varieties is fairly simple, involving selection of true to type plants each year.
