In hybrid production, male elimination is important in order to avoid physical mixing. Before harvesting the female line which carries the hybrid seed, the male line must be removed from the field and the heads placed at least 50 m from the threshing floor and a male elimination report obtained from the seed inspector stating that all male line heads have been removed and that harvesting of the female line can proceed. An inspector must clear the use of any machinery with regard to their cleanliness.
