Groundnut is infected by a number of diseases in Zambia. Of these, only cercospora leaf spot caused by Cercospora canescens, scab caused by Elsinoe phaseoli, ascochyta blight caused by Phoma exigua (Ascochyta phaseolorum), pod/root rot caused by Sclerotium rolfsii and wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum of ssp. Voundzeiae are of economic importance.
Cultural practices such as crop rotation, use of disease free seed and field sanitation will reduce the disease severity. Utilization of resistant genotypes to most of these diseases is the best control measure.
